A Busy Day, A Crazy Night

Today is the first day of the convention aka International Capstone Design Fair. All the stages and booths are set, my Mechanical Lion was set up and all connections are wired up except internet or wireless internet (Damn…), posters are hung up and we wait for the official opening.

As the show started, crowds came in and there are quite a numbers of lookers attracted by the cuteness of my mechanical lion and I have to explain to them the working principles behind. I spend most of my time manning the booth and occasionally walk around to see the other projects from other countries and also from the various institutes in Korea too. It is a very busy day indeed.

During dinner, all the professors were given a treat elsewhere while the students were asked to gather at the restaurant downstairs and given a treat of Korean food in hot pot. Unwittedly, I took a bite of what has been served to me and I realize that it is beef even though our host claims that it is pork. Since it has been serve to me, it is very impolite to reject the food. Besides, there are no other food been serve and so I finished up what is given to me. I hope that my Divine will forgive me for eating beef (I am a Buddhist and my family forbid me to eat beef) as I do not have much of a choice. Most of all, my conscious is clear and do I ask for forgiveness.

After dinner, we aboard the bus that took us back to hotel. Susan (Su Jin LEE, out Korean interpreter and host, a very nice lady) told us to gather at the hotel lobby at 8:00pm as they are going to bring us downtown. I went back to my room and have a quick shower and at 7:50pm or so, Shanti and I went down to meet up with the rest of the people and we took a few cabs to do downtown to look around. After walking for a while, Rachel (Chee-Yon Gang, not sure if I got her Korean name right, but her English name is Rachel Kang, another of our interpreter and host, a very nice lady too) took us to a pub to have a drink. The atmosphere in the pub is really nice and cozy, no loud music or what so ever.

After a while, Susan and Yeon Hong (another interpreter and host, a very nice lady too) arrived in the pub, they ordered some food together with a big jug of beer and some Soju (Clear Potato Wine in Korea). I took quite a few shots of the Soju and also some Soju cocktail mix with peach which taste much better than Soju plain as it taste like medicine. The total bill for the drinks is around 11,000 won per person which I think it’s quite reasonable.

It is really a crazy night as I keep drinking and drinking with the rest; I really let my hair down and enjoyed myself tonight. All of us are having a really fun time. At around 11pm or so, some of us are quite tired and decided to go back to hotel to have a rest. What a night, I really enjoyed myself and I hope that it will never end. Having to drink so much, I feel really good and I have such a good night sleep after that.

Here are a few shots taken that day. Enjoy.
