Looking back in Year 2007

Took me a few days to complete writing this post as I wanted to take my time to reflect on things that had happened for the past one year. The eve of a new year is the best time for us to look back and analyse all the things that we had done, things that we didn't do or things that had happened to us and our surrounding in the last 365 days. Some time, I also don't know how and where to begin writing... But here goes...

It haven't been always been an uphill period for me in the last one year. I was trying to manage a broken heart at the start of the year, learning to forgive myself in the meantime. Trying to cope with living alone since my cousin moved to NZ and having to learn how to take care of the whole house by myself.

Besides that, I have to manage 2 subjects for my Master studies while juggling with my project work which is picking up the pace. It has been almost 1.5 years since I last studied and I guess working and studying at the same time is quite tedious to manage especially when the 2 subjects have project work and Continuous Assignments (CA) to be submitted. But thankfully, I manage to get quite good grades for this 2 subjects in the end, maybe because they are statistical based so I still can cope with it because I have been studying QA and statistical since my poly time.

Also, at the start of the year, I have signed up as an NTU Alumni Club member and since I am paying monthly subscription, I might as well make full use of it by heading to the gym regularly for exercise. It has been long since I last exercised and I have been heading to the gym regularly since then.

In July, I took a good break as I flew over to Perth, Australia to look for Ian and Aeris. Together with Theo and Serene, we spent a total of 5 days there. Even though the weather is not really that good, it was a nice trip as I finally managed to catch up with Ian and Aeris. Really needed this breather as it really open and cheer me up quite a bit. I have started to move on with my life after coming back from this break.

Starting in August, the 2nd university term starts again and I still got one last subject to clear for my M.Eng studies. I tried to study early this time because this subject is purely engineering based which I think I have lost touch with but it seems that the A-Start project that I am working on is on a fast track and there are quite a lot of things to manage on top of my studies which took quite a bit of my attention and time. Example is our involvement in an experiment coducted by NIE side whereby we need to go to their gym regularly to train our leg musle every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for 6 weeks. And also, the subject which I am taking requires me to do a wind tunnel experiment which need to fabricate some hot wire for measurement, this is really a tough one because the process to make a hot wire is very tricky and time-consuming. But luckily, I managed to get good grades for this subject also. Now what is left standing in my way is my thesis which is now my biggest, biggest, biggest worry... I don't have any inspiration to start... Geez...

On a personal front, in September and October period, I begin to change my style and wardrode to mark a new beginning. Some how, when I think that things are picking up again, I was met with road blocks and mistakes which made me think through quite a long of things especially in the last few days which plunge me into darkness and confusion again... Some time I like to ask the Divine, what is this bigger roadmap that you wanted me to see. I can't see my direction and where it is leading to. The more I struggle, the more entangle it gets. If I let go, that sinking feeling just get in to me...

However, it is in time like this which put us to the test that we can see what life lesson is trying to drive at. If we don't lose faith and hope, we can walk through this tough and dark time and towards the light where our destiny leads. I remembered reading this from Corrinne May's latest email,
"And so it is, with our lives, oftentimes,
the darkest moments, the moments of despair,
the moments of feeling lost and confused,
can often be moments of grace, moments of intense
illumination where we re-discover ourselves, our goals,
our inspirations and the purpose for which we truly live."
It is so true.

I came upon this meaningful truth one night when I was in the kitchen. As I was living alone, I usually don't switch all the lights on in the house. So there I was, in the kitchen, without any fluorescent lighting and I saw how brightly the floor were lighted by the Full Moon out in the sky. As I switch on the kitchen light, I couldn't see how brightly the moon had shone. I swtich off the light again and begin to appreciate the beauty of nature work. It is then I realise that it is only through the darkest period in our life can we learn to see how nature works it miracle in our life.

Anyway, in another 12 hours time, 2007 will come to an end and what new hopes, horizons and challenges will 2008 bring?

Just like to wish all A Very Happy New Year.

Seven Swords

Was watching a Chinese movie "Seven Swords" on Channel U earlier and happened to catch an interesting phrase.

"莫问前程有愧,只求今生无悔"

I will try my best to translate it in English for those who don't understand.

"Don't ask (life) to have a past without guilt, but just wish to live this lifetime without regret."

All of us have past guilt but no point dwelling on it. Just live life to the fullest and without having any regret. Very interesting and meaningful phrase which will serve me as a constant reminder to let go of the past and the wrong that I have made. Learn from the mistakes and pick myself up, lift my head high and face the world.

Anyway, the show is good. Got quite a bit of knowledge that I can learn from the author of the Seven Swords novel series. Hope to be able to share more words of wisdom next time.

Updates on Corrinne May's Blog

Visited Corrinne's blog last night and saw that she got lots of updates. She shared about her around the world trip which I think it is literally around the world because she flow from one side of the globe and the other side and back again within a day or so. It is really tiring I guess. Of course she also shared about her thoughts on Christmas and her reflections on things in life. Very interesting read. Do check it out.

The Oyster

This is one of those email stories that I will always remember. It tells us the wisdom of the oyster and how its Perseverance has turn an unfavourable situation into something positive. What that doesn't kill us just make us stronger day by day. Hope that this story will inspire the rest.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There once was an oyster whose story I tell,
who found that sand had got under his shell;
just one little grain, but it gave him much pain,
for oysters have feelings although they're so plain.
Now, did he berate the working of Fate which had led him to such a
deplorable state? Did he turn to the Government, or blame other
oysters? No; as he lay on the shelf,
he said to himself, "If I cannot remove it,
I'll try to improve it."

So the years rolled by as the years always
do, and he came to his ultimate destiny--stew.
And this small grain of sand which had bothered him so,
had become a beautiful pearl, all richly aglow.
Now this tale has a moral--for isn't it grand what an oyster can do with a grain of sand --
And what splendid results may occur if
we begin to work on problems that get under our skin!

We all have problems that get under our skin.
The usual approach to problems is to complain,
criticize, and point fingers. Those are negative approaches,
with the problem being in control, and you reacting to it.

The oyster chose a positive approach. He assumed
control of the problem, and steadily applied himself
toward transforming his situation into something beautiful.
The same strategy will work for you.

Remember one truth -- what you fail
to master in your life will eventually master you.
Fear, anger, misery.
Rather than they hold sway over your life,
why not make the best out of the worst situation.

Reflections for Christmas by Corrinne May

Was checking my email when I received a newsletter from Corrinne May. She shared a video clip where she performs "In the Bleak Midwinter" at Peets Coffee & Tea, her favorite tea store.

Besides the video, she also shares her thought about Christmas Day. It is really nice and meaningful. Even though I am not a Christian, but the meaning behind this story is very touching which I will like to share with all.

Los Angeles, CA
Reflections for Christmas Day - Gifts for Jesus
25th December 2007

The nights have been getting colder
and colder over here in California
and the days and moments of light have been getting shorter.

And yet, I find a lovely reflectiveness
in this season, this Winter season,

I've always found it a blessing that stars shine
their brightest in the darkest nights.
And so it is, with our lives, oftentimes,
the darkest moments, the moments of despair,
the moments of feeling lost and confused,
can often be moments of grace, moments of intense
illumination where we re-discover ourselves, our goals,
our inspirations and the purpose for which we truly live.

It must have been a very dark night when
the brightest star shone for the 3 Magi, who
went in search of the infant King Jesus.
They must have been filled with thoughts of doubt
and despair, and yet hope must have warmed
their hearts as they travelled
all those nights in the barren desert,
eyes, turned heavenwards towards the star that
pointed the way to the infant Jesus.

They brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh,
but most importantly, they brought the gift
of themselves, and offered it to the infant Jesus.

Jesus says in John 17:24
"Father, they are your gift to me."

We are God the Father's gifts to Jesus.
Wow....I find that amazing. Especially when I think of the moments
when I've been weak, fragile, proud, hurt, selfish...
not the best type of gift at all.

Yet, we are Jesus's christmas presents.
The gift of ourselves, of our time, of our talents, of our being.
What type of gifts do we want to be?
What type of gifts are we to our families, to our friends?
What can we present to the infant Jesus when we reach the end
of this journey under the stars?

Have a blessed, reflective Christmas
filled with wonder and Joy :)

Love,
Corrinne.

Is Love Always Too Late?

Some time, people just look at the surface of things and jump to conclusion which leads to many wrong decisions in different points in life. How many of these wrong decisions have we made which caused us to miss the love of our lifetime? Is it either we are moving too fast for love to catch up or that love is always late??? Think about it.

A married lady was expecting a birthday gift from her husband.
For many months she had admired a beautiful diamond ring in a showroom, and knowing her husband could afford it, she told him that was all she wanted.
As her birthday approached, this lady awaited signs that her husband had purchased the diamond ring.

Finally, on the morning of her birthday, her husband called her into his study room. Her husband told her how proud he was to have such a good wife, and told her how much he loved her. He handed her a beautiful wrapped gift box.
Curious, the wife opened the box and found a lovely, leather-bound Bible, with the wife's name embossed in gold.
Angrily, she raised her voice to her husband and said, "With all your money you give
me a Bible" and stormed out of the house, leaving her husband.

Many years passed and the married lady was very successful in business.
She managed to settle for a more beautiful house and a wonderful family, but realized her ex-husband was very old, and thought perhaps she should go to visit him. She had not seen him for many years. But before she could make arrangements, she received a telegram telling her that her ex-husband had passed away, and willed all of his possessions to her. She needed to come back immediately and take care of things.

When she arrived at her ex-husband's house, sudden sadness and regret filled her heart. She began to search through her ex-husband's important papers and saw the still new Bible, just as she had left it years ago.

With tears, she opened the Bible and began to turn the pages. Her ex-husband had carefully underlined a verse, Matt 7:11, "And if you, being evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father which is in heaven, give to those who ask Him?"

As she read those words, a tiny package dropped from the back of the Bible. It had a diamond ring with her name engraved on it, the same diamond ring which she saw at the showroom. On the tag was the date of her birth, and the words...'LUV U ALWAYS'...

Happy Boxing Day to All

One day after Christmas is known as Boxing Day. Not too sure why is it called Boxing Day also, hehe... Anyway, I do hope that all my visitors to my blog had an enjoyable holidays and gotten lots of presents.

For me, I gotten a gift from Ian which he sent quite some time back. No other presents for me this year, maybe I am not on Santa's Very Nice List... :(

Here I am, in front of my laptop, still thinking should I go into my lab today because I think it will be so quiet. My exams results will be out at 5pm this afternoon, so I was wondering should I go to work today...

I Will Fight No More

Just woken up as I slept too early earlier on. So here I am, at 3 o'clock in the morning. Couldn't sleep anymore.

Was looking through my music collection so that I could find some music that can put me to sleep. As some of you all might have known, I am a great fan of piano and flute music and I recently found the mystical and enchanting music from the Native American Flute collection. The tune sort of suited my mood and I decided to change the music on my blog to share with all.

The title of the song is "I Will Fight No More" performed by Carlos Nakai & Peter Kater from the collection "How The West Was Lost" (1993).

Merry Christmas 2007 to All and a Happy 2008

Just like to wish all my visitors to my blog a very Merry Christmas 2007 and a Happy 2008 for the New Year ahead.

Christmas Eve 2007

It is near the end of the year again, on this Christmas Eve of 2007. A New Year awaits just around the corner. What new hopes will it bring?

Anyway, I didn't go to work again, no point for me I guess. I have to travel around one and a half hour and worked for less than 1/2 a day. I think I might as well save myself the trouble and the transport fare.

I don't know what I want to do today... Maybe I will catch a movie later this afternoon. I guess I will be watching "I am Legend" as we (Theo, Serene, Kelvin and I) didn't managed to catch it at Vivocity yesterday. I think after that, I might be getting myself a new Nokia phone. All thanks to Theo, I really got hooked by his new phone, but was thinking of getting a N95 instead of N82. Still considering...

No Corrinne May's concert in sight

It is really a pity that Corrinne May is not coming back to Singapore this time of the year for a Christmas concert. Really miss going to her concert and listening to her angelic voice. Hope to see a new album from her next year. :)

Lord, slow me down

Ease the pounding of my heart by quieting my mind.
Steady my hurried pace.
Give me, in the confusion of my day, the calmness of the everlasting hills.
Break the tension of my nerves and muscles.
Help me to know the magical, restoring power of sleep.
Teach me to take minute vacations by slowing down to look at a flower,
a cloud, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog, to read a few lines from a good book.

Remind me that the race is not always to the swift,
that there is more to life than increasing speed.
Let me look upward into the branches of the towering oak
and know that it grew great and strong because it grew slowly and well.

Lord, slow me down.
Inspire me to send my roots deep into the soil of life's enduring values
that I may grow toward the stars of my great destiny.

Let me Love You

Love is never selfish. Some time, letting go might be the best option but deep inside the heart, you will always wish happiness for the person you love. At times like this, maybe it is time to give up... so that it will work the way that is the best for us.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once upon a time, there was once a guy who was very much in love with this girl. This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of papercranes as a gift to his girl. Although, at that time he was just a small executive in his company, his future doesn't seemed too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualise any future for the both of them, so let's go their own ways there and then... heartbroken, the guy agreed.

When he regained his confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of himself. Finally with all these hardwork and with the help of friends, this guy had set up his own company...

"You never fail until you stop trying." he always told himself. "I must make it in life!"
One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realise those were his ex-girlfriend's parents. With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same anymore, he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He had made it in life!

Before the guy can realise, the couple was walking towards a cemetary, and he got out of his car and followed them...and he saw his ex-girlfriend, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone... and he saw his precious papercranes in a bottle placed beside her tomb. Her parents saw him. He walked over and asked them why this had happened. They explained, she did not leave for France at all. She was stricken ill with cancer. In her heart, she had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want her illness to be his obstacle ... therefore she had chosen to leave him.

She had wanted her parents to put his papercranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again he can take some of those back with him. The guy just wept ...the worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them but knowing you can't have them and will never see them again.
The End."

A tragic story that perhaps happens only in the movies. At the end of the day, money is money is money but love is divine. In our quest for our material wealth, take time to make time for our loved ones. There will be a time when we have only memories to cling to.
Take this weekend to show our "love" to all that are close to us.

Flute and Chinese Flute

Pop Quiz : What musical instrument does Francis know how to play?

For those who knows me will know that I was in Monfort Military Band during my secondary school days. But what musical instrument did I play then??? The answer is not in the title. Hahaha... Well, it was the clarinet.

I very much like to play the flute but because during that time, the flute section was full and so I was assigned to learn the clarinet. But till to date, I will like to learn how to play the flute. In fact, I used to play on my cousin's Chinese Flute aka Di Zi. I didn't went through proper training but I roughly figure out how to blow and a bit of the fingering.

I had borrowed a flute from Sykestang for a upcoming shoot and I took a few comparison shots to compare the differences between a flute and a Chinese flute.

The Beauty Of A Woman

Some define the beauty of a woman in the way she looks, the make-up that she wears, the clothes that she dress in, but the true beauty of a woman lies beyond the physical beauty but what is inside the soul and heart that can truly define the beauty of a woman.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The beauty of a woman
Is not in the clothes she wears;
the figure that she carries,
Or the way she combs her hair.
The beauty of a woman must be seen in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,
the place where love resides.
The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,
But true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives,
the passion that she shows
And the beauty of a woman
With passing years -- only grows.

Another Photo from Clubsnap/Nikon Embrace Nature 2007 Outing

Kirby has uploaded the group photo taken for this outing. It was taken with a D3 and a 14-24mm lens. You can see that this lens is super wide, don't think you can be able to see my face, hehehe. Once again, thanks to Kirby.

The Missing Rib

I usually won't like to share tragic or sad stories or news on my blog because I don't want visitors to my blog to feel upset or sad after reading them. However, what I was about to share to you is a sad love story which I found in my email archives, it is really meaningful and I remembered this touching story very well.

It talks about how a man who don't know how to treasure the missing rib (woman) which he found and cause her great hurt in the spite of anger. When the man realise his mistake and try to find back his missing rib but it was just too late.

This remind me of a story that I read before by 吳若權 (Eric Wu IIRC), one phrase that he wrote "错过的爱,通常也是爱的过错." (Hey Ian, sorry if you can't understand this part). Take your time to read this touching story.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A girl in love asked her boyfriend.

Girl: Tell me. Who do you love most in this world?

Boy: You, of course!

Girl: In your heart, what am I to you?

Boy: The boy thought for a moment and looked intently in her eyes and said, "You are my rib. It was said that God saw that Adam was lonely, during his sleep, God took one of Adam's rib and created Eve. Every man has been searching for his missing rib, only when you find the woman of your life, you'll no longer feel the lingering ache in your heart."

After their wedding, the couple had a sweet and happy life for a while.

However, the youthful couple began to drift apart due to the busy schedule of life and the never-ending worries of daily problems, their life became mundane.

All the challenges posed by the harsh realities of life began to gnaw away their dreams and love for each other. The couple began to have more quarrels and each quarrel became more heated.

One day, after the quarrel, the girl ran out of the house. At the opposite side of the road, she shouted, "You don't love me!"

The boy hated her childishness and out of impulse, retorted, "Maybe, it was a mistake for us to be together! You were never my missing rib!"

Suddenly, she turned quiet and stood there for a long while. He regretted what he said but words spoken are like thrown away water, you can never take it back. With tears, she went home to pack her things and was determined in breaking-up.

Before she left the house, "If I'm really not your missing rib, please let me go." She continued, "It is less painful this way. Let us go on our separate ways and search for our own partners."

Five years went by...

He never remarried but he had tried to find out about her life indirectly. She had left the country and back. She had married a foreigner and divorced. He felt anguished that she never waited for him.

In the dark and lonely night, he lit his cigarette and felt the lingering ache in his heart. He couldn't bring himself to admit that he was missing her.

One day, they finally met. At the airport, a place where there were many reunions and good byes. He was going away on a business trip. She was standing there alone, with just the security door separating them. She smiled at him gently.

Boy: How are you?

Girl: I'm fine. How about you? Have you found your missing rib?

Boy: No.

Girl: I'll be flying to New York in the next flight.

Boy: I'll be back in 2 weeks time. Give me a call when you are back. You know my number. Nothing has changed.

With a smile, she turned around and waved good bye.

Good bye...

One week later, he heard of her death. She had perished in New York, in the event that shocked the world.

Midnight, once again, he lit his cigarette. And like before, he felt the lingering ache in his heart. He finally knew. She was the missing rib that he had carelessly broken.

Sometimes, people say things out of moments of fury. Most often than not, the outcome could be disastrous and detrimental. We vent our frustrations 99% at our loved ones. And even though we know that we ought to "think twice and act wisely", it's often easier said than done.

Things happen each day, many of which are beyond our control. Let us treasure every moment and everyone in our lives.

Tomorrow may never come. Give and accept what you have today.

Backdate for 15th Dec 2007

Finally got some time to backdate some of the things I was busy with last week. I was helping Peng Eik with the Nikon Outing at Jurong Bird Park on Saturday and was tasked to take care of the precious D3 and also the next AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4G ED VR Lens. This configuration can easily cost me up to SGD$25,000.

Anyway, I just remembered that it has been more than a decade since I last step into Jurong Bird Park. Too bad I don't have my CF card with me to take some shots to share with all. But I got a photo taken of me with the D3 and the long lens.

Photo by Mr Kirby Ong (acidbyte). Thanks Kirby. ;)

Love Thoughts

The lesson of love is never-ending, what is best is to just follow your heart. Enjoy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The beginning of love, is to let those we love be perfectly themselves and not twist them with our own image -- otherwise, we love only the reflection of ourselves we find in them? The happiest people don't necessarily have the best of every-thing...they just make the most out of everything that comes their way.

The best kind of friend is the one you can sit on a porch with, never saying a word and then walk away, feeling like that was the best conversation you've had.

Don't go for looks -- it can deceive.

Don't go for money -- even wealth fades away.

Go for someone who makes you smile, because only a smile makes a dark day seem bright. Happiness lies for those who cry, those who hurt, those who have searched and those who have tried. For only they can appreciate the importance of the people who have touched their lives.

Love is when you take away the feeling, the passion and the romance... and you find out you still care for that person. Love comes to those who still hope even though they've been disappointed, those who still believe, even though they have been betrayed and those who still love even though they've been hurt before. Maybe God wants us to meet a few wrong people, before meeting the right one, so that when we finally meet the right person, we should know how to be grateful for that gift. It hurts to love someone and not be loved in return. But, what is the most painful is to love someone and never find the courage to let the person know how you feel. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past ... you can't go on in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.

Giving someone all your love is never an assurance that they'll love you back! Don't expect love in return, just wait for it to grow in Their hearts. But, if it doesn't, be content it grew in yours. There are things that you would love to hear, but you never hear it from the person you want to. Don't be deaf to hear it from the person who says it with their heart.

When you were born, you were crying and everyone around you was smiling. Live your life so that when you die, you are smiling and everyone around you is crying.

When one door of happiness closes, another opens. But often we look so long at the closed door, that we don't see the one which has just been opened for us.

Always put yourself in the other's shoes. If you feel that it hurts you, it probably hurts the other person, too. A sad thing about life is when you meet someone who means a lot to you ... only to find out in the end, that it was never meant to be and you just have to let go.

It takes a minute to have a crush on someone ... an hour to like someone...a day to love someone...but it takes a lifetime to forget someone.

Love starts with a smile, develops with a kiss and ends with a tear.

12 Days to Christmas

We are officially 12 Days away from Christmas, time to change the songs on my blog to some songs related to Christmas. As you all know, I am a Great Fan of Corrinne May so I decided to share out those Christmas songs sang by her in her previous album, "The Gift". Enjoy. :)

Love is never Selfish

Was looking through my email stash and found a very interesting and meaningful article written by my best friend about Love been never Selfish. When people are in Love or people who fall in Love, they tend to be a bit selfish in their thoughts and actions but true love is never selfish for it is about giving for what is right for the person you. Have a good read on this article and inspire. :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Love is never selfish. That often used cliche of "If you love someone, set them free" is very apt. If you love someone, you always put their needs first, you always care about their feelings and what affects them. Even if it means having to be hurt yourself, or having to take a backseat to whatever else they prioritise first in their life. It means that one has to be giving to the person they love. If you know that the person you love loves someone else and the feelings are reciprocated, then if you truly love that person, you'll try to do what's best for them, even if it means letting go.

It's natural to feel selfish. It's human nature! We all want what we think or feel is best for us. But it's whether we put any thought or consideration of the other party that defines whether we're really thinking of them, whether we really love them or not. If you find that all thoughts are always about your needs and wants instead of what the other person wants and what the other person is feeling, then it's probably not love.

Roses In Advance

I remembered reading this story very well because it is just so beautiful and touching. Even after death, the couple still love each other. This story reflect very well on the verse, "till death do us apart". Have a good read.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Red roses were her favorites, her name was also Rose.
And every year her husband sent them, tied with pretty bows.
The year he died, the roses were delivered to her door.
The card said, "Be my Valentine," like all the years before.

Each year he sent her roses, and the note would always say,
"I love you even more this year, than last year on this day."
"My love for you will always grow, with every passing year."
She knew this was the last time that the roses would appear.

She thought, he ordered roses in advance before this day.
Her loving husband did not know, that he would pass away.
He always liked to do things early, way before the time.
Then, if he got too busy, everything would work out fine.

She trimmed the stems, and placed them in a very special vase.
Then, sat the vase beside the portrait of his smiling face.
She would sit for hours, in her husband's favorite chair.
While staring at his picture, and the roses sitting there.

A year went by, and it was hard to live without her mate.
With loneliness and solitude, that had become her fate.
Then, the very hour, as on Valentines before,
The doorbell rang, and there were roses, sitting by her door.

She brought the roses in, and then just looked at them in shock.
Then, went to get the telephone, to call the florist shop.
The owner answered, and she asked him, if he would explain,
Why would someone do this to her, causing her such pain?

"I know your husband passed away, more than a year ago,"
The owner said, "I knew you'd call, and you would want to know."
"The flowers you received today, were paid for in advance."
"Your husband always planned ahead, he left nothing to chance."

"There is a standing order, that I have on file down here,
And he has paid, well in advance, you'll get them every year.
There also is another thing, that I think you should know,
He wrote a special little card...he did this years ago."

"Then, should ever, I find out that he's no longer here,
That's the card...that should be sent, to you the following year.
" She thanked him and hung up the phone, her tears now flowing hard.

Her fingers shaking, as she slowly reached to get the card.
Inside the card, she saw that he had written her a note.
Then, as she stared in total silence, this is what he wrote...

"Hello my love, I know it's been a year since I've been gone,
I hope it hasn't been too hard for you to overcome."
"I know it must be lonely, and the pain is very real.
For if it was the other way, I know how I would feel.

The love we shared made everything so beautiful in life.
I loved you more than words can say, you were the perfect wife."
"You were my friend and lover, you fulfilled my every need.
I know it's only been a year, but please try not to grieve.

I want you to be happy, even when you shed your tears.
That is why the roses will be sent to you for years."
"When you get these roses, think of all the happiness,
That we had together, and how both of us were blessed.
I have always loved you and I know I always will.

But, my love, you must go on, you have some living still."
"Please...try to find happiness, while living out your days.
I know it is not easy, but I hope you find some ways.
The roses will come every year, and they will only stop,
When your door's not answered, when the florist stops to knock."

"He will come five times that day, in case you have gone out.
But after his last visit, he will know without a doubt,
To take the roses to the place, where I've instructed him,
And place the roses where we are, together once again."

Imagine Me Without You - Jaci Velasquez

A lady friend of mine recommend me to this song which I think it is really nice.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagine Me Without You - Jaci Velasquez

As long as stars shone down from Heaven
and the rivers run into the sea
Till the end of time, forever
You're the only love I'll need

In my life You're all that matters
In my eyes the only truth I see
When my hopes and dreams have shattered
You're the one that's there for me

When I found You I was blessed
And I will never leave You, I need You

Imagine me with You
I'd be lost and so confused
I wouldn't last a day
I'd be afraid with You there to see me through

Imagine me with You
Lord, You know it's just impossible
Because of You, it's all brand new
My life is now worth while
I can't imagine me without You

When You caught me I was falling
Your love lifted me back on my feet
It was like You heard my calling
And You rushed to set me free

When I found You I was blessed
And I will never leave You, I need You

Imagine me with You
I'd be lost and so confused
I wouldn't last a day
I'd be afraid with You there to see me through

Imagine me with You
Lord, You know it's just impossible
Because of You, it's all brand new
My life is now worth while
I can't imagine me without You

When I found You I was blessed
And I will never leave You, I need You

Imagine me with You
I'd be lost and so confused
I wouldn't last a day
I'd be afraid with You there to see me through

Imagine me with You
Lord, You know it's just impossible
Because of You, it's all brand new
My life is now worth while
I can't imagine me, I can't imagine me without You

When Things changes, Will the Feeling Change?

Was having afternoon coffee earlier, deep in my thoughts and suddenly I thought of a story to share with all.

It took quite a while to come up with this story. Enjoy.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once there was this man, who really likes this girl, but the guy was too shy to confess his feeling to her. All he can do is to miss her day after day. He prayed that somehow, someday, she will notice him and accept him.

One night, the guy was thinking of the girl again when an angel appears to him and asked him, “Are you missing that someone? She is not even your girlfriend, why are you missing her or kept thinking of her?” The guy replied, “I have a liking for that person, that’s why I kept thinking of her.”

The angel begins to ask the guy,
“Will you still like that someone if she had become fat and ugly?”
“Will you still miss her when she is old and frail-looking?”
“Will you still care about her when she is sick and weak?”

The man was shocked by these tough questions for he can’t even answer it. He feels really ashamed of himself for he realized that he hasn’t understood what true love is.

Many a times, people develop a liking or feeling for someone because the other person is pretty or handsome. Or maybe that person is wealthy and successful. When things are smooth sailing, people usually take these things for granted and thought that it will always remind the way they are now. But when things take a turn, what was once pretty and beautiful can turn into disfigured and ugly; will that liking feeling still be there? What was once rich and powerful might fall from grace and lost everything overnight and become poor, will you still be by the side of that someone?

I remember reading/watching a story about a man who really like this gal and the gal wanted to test his love for her, make a pact with an wizard to turn her into someone who is old and ugly. When the lady in the changed form appeared in front of the man told him that she was placed under a spell and will not be able to change back to her previous youthful self. But still the man hug her tightly and said to her that he will love her no matter what become of her, this really moved her and the wizard appeared and changed her back to her normal self and the couple happily married each other. If this is true, it really makes me wonder, how many of us are able to pass the test and stand by the side of that someone when she/he has turn old and ugly?

All these thoughts make me search deep in myself to understand more about True Love. As the vow for marriage read, “for better or for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish; from this day forward until death do us part.” This is the promise that couple made to each other to accept each other no matter what become of the other person till death do us apart. Remember; don’t make such a promise if you can’t keep them.

Virtual Promotion

I should have posted this a few days back but I was a bit busy with driving and Thomas and Amelia's wedding that I had completely forgotten about it.

As you know, I was appointed the role of Superuser for the Night Photography section for Clubsnap Photography Forum on National Day last year (More details here). Throughout this one year, I had tried my best to uphold my duties to maintain the well-being of the forum and to help people to enjoy digital photography.

On the 8th of December 2007, Jason and Darren (Adminstrators of Clubsnap) announced the promotion of all Superusers of Clubsnap to become Section Moderators and we are given the power to give infractions to non-compliance of members.

Well, great powers come great responsibilities in which I will carry out my duties and roles with Diligent and Pride.

After a long Dilemma, I am now on...

Facebook. Yap, you heard me, I finally register an account with Facebook. So to all my friends, you can try adding me to your account. Thanks a lot. :)

Real Love

I remembered posting the Chinese version of this story one year back which still can be found here.
Reading this article now really makes me think through a lot of things about what had happened in my life. I am still looking for these 4 people in my own life too. Take your time to read. :)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4 person in your life how many have u found?

1st - urself,
2nd - 1 u love most,
3rd - 1 who love u most,
4th - 1 you spend the rest of your life with.

firstly u'll meet the 1 u love most, and learn how love feels.
Because u know how love feels, so u can find the person who loves u most.
When u've experienced the feeling of loving others and being loved, u'll then know what it is u need most.
Then u will find the person who is most suitable for u, to be able to spend the rest of your life with.

Sadly,in real life, these 3 people are usually not the same person.
The one u love most doesn't love you. The one,who love u most,is never the one u love most. And the one u spend your life with, is never the one u love most or the one who love u most.
He/she is just the person who happens to be at the right place at the right time.

Which person are u in other people's life?
No person will purposely have a change of heart.
At the point in time when he loves u, he/she really loves u.
But when he/she doesn't love u anymore, he/she really doesn't love u anymore.
When he/she loves u, he/she can't pretend that he/she doesn't.
same goes, when he/she loves u no more, there's no way he/she can pretend he/she loves u.
When a person doesn't love u and wants to leave u, u must ask yourself if u still love him/her.
If u also don't love him/her anymore, do not keep him/her just to save your pride. If you still love him/her, you should wish him/her happiness, and hope that he/she will be with the one he/she loves most, not stop him/her from it.
If you stop him/her from finding true happiness with the one he/she loves, it shows u already don't love him/her, And if you don't love him/her, what rights do you have to blame him/her for a change of heart?

Love is not possessive, if you like the moon, you can't just take it down and put it in your basin, But the moonlight still shines upon you. In other words, when you love a person, you can use another method of possessing the person. Let him/her become a permanent memory in you life. If you really love a person, you must love him/her for what he/she is. Love him/her for his/her good points, and the bad, You can't wish for him/her to become like what you like him/her to be just because you love him/her. If he/she can't change to become what you like him/her to be, you don't love him/her anymore. When you really love a person, you cannot find a reason why you love him/her, You only know that no matter when and where, good mood or bad mood, you will wish to have this person be with you.

Real love is when two people can go through the toughest problems without asking for promises or listing criteria. In a relationship, you have to put in effort and give in at times, not always be on the receiving end. Being away from each other is a type of test, If the relationship isn't strong, then you can only admit defeat. Real love will never become hate.

When two people are in love, They love to ask each other to swear, to make promises. Why do they ask each other to swear and promise? Because they don't trust each other, they don't trust their lover. These swear and promises are useless; Till the sky falls, till the ocean dry, my love for u will never change! We all know that the sky will never fall; the ocean will never dry, Even if it does happen, are we still alive by then? Be careful when making promises; don't make promises that you cannot keep. Swear by things that can never happen, because it can never happen, so no harm just saying it casually. Remember? Swearing by things that can never happen are the most touching!!?
In a relationship, what you say is one thing, but what you do is another;
The 1 saying, doesn't believe; the 1 listening, also doesn't believe.

Always Live Life to the Fullest

Living life to the fullest is all about the state of mind that we are in. Just believe in yourself and don't give up hope in time of despair for the Divine has a plan for you.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't let go of hope,
Hope gives you the strength to keep going
When you feel like giving up.

Don't ever quit believing in yourself,
As long as you believe you can,
You will have reason for trying.

Don't let anyone hold your happiness in their hands,
Hold it in yours, so it will always be within your reach.

Don't measure success or failure by material wealth,
But by how you feel,
Our feelings determine the richness of our lives.

Don't let bad moments overcome you,
Be patient, and they will pass.

Don't hesitate to reach out for help;
We all need it from time to time.

Don't run away from love but towards love,
Because it is your deepest joy.

Don't wait for what you want to come to you.
Go after it with all that you are,
Knowing that life will meet you halfway.

Don't feel like you've lost,
When plans and dreams fall short of your hopes.
Anytime you learn something new,
About yourself or about life,
You have progressed

Don't do anything that takes away,
From your self-respect.
Feeling good about yourself
Is essential to feeling good about life.

Don't ever forget how to laugh,
Or be too proud to cry,
Or too stubborn to smile.

Don't ever forget a friend who truly loves you,
As it could be that friend who is true to your needs.
Don't ever forget who helped you grow as your need
for more seeds may often re-appear.

With all the above, live life to it's fullest....

Backdate for the last few days

Sorry to be out of action for the last few days as I was on leave but I hardly have time to blog as I had rented a car to drive around. I haven't drive for a long time ever since that small accident that I had back in 2005 where a cab "kiss" the side of my cousin's Estima after which she sold off the car and I haven't drive since then.

I realise that I still do love to drive and will like to own a car despite the high cost. If my job can support this, I will gladly buy a car. Anyway, I drove around Singapore and the feeling was really great.

Hope to be able to save up enough to get a car next time. :)

Intuos 3 Airbrush

Ever since attending the Photoshop course on Saturday has really make me interested in maximizing the use of my tablet. I went to Sim Lim today to get some pen accessories for my tablet as I wanted to try out the different pen. I wanted to try out the Art Pen which is with a broader pen tip but a pity the shop Tec-Drome is not carrying it but they got an Airbrush Pen instead. Since I was in a buying frenzy, I decided to give it a try.

Based on what I read, I know that there is a fingerwheel on the pen which can control the flow of the pen very much like a real airbrush. After trying it for the whole night, I don't seem to be able to get the fingerwheel to work with my Photoshop CS2. I check the properties and diagnostic check and it is working fine. I tried other software such as Corel Painter and it is working perfectly fine. After trying for a whole night, I thought that maybe the airbrush is not suitable for Photoshop CS2 as the fingerwheel is not configure hence it will work like another normal grip pen for my tablet.

After sleeping over it for a night, I decided to do a Google search to look for solution and what do you know... Hehehe...

How to set the Airbrush to adjust the paint flow in Photoshop CS?

What If Tomorrow Never Comes?

Since still on the topic of Procrastination, this is another nice little story about treasuring the present moment, for we won't know as tomorrow might never come... So, take this moment to ponder about all those people around us and how much they meant, tell it them because... What if Tomorrow Never Comes???

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If I knew it would be the last time that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute or two
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight..

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear,

Take time to say "I'm sorry," "please forgive me,"
"thank you" or "it's okay".
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

Around The Corner

This is a nice yet sad story which I like to share with all. I remember reading somewhere, Procrastination is the thief of time, this is really true for Tomorrow is a day that will never come. Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today. So, just take a minute of your time to reflect those whom you love and those who love you and tell them how much they mean to you...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.
And I never see my old friend's face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.
And he rang mine
if, we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.
"Tomorrow" I say "I will call on Jim"
"Just to show that I'm thinking of him."
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.
Around the corner! -- yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir"
"Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

Remember to always say what you mean. If you love someone, tell them. Don't be afraid to express yourself. Reach out and tell someone what they mean to you. Because when you decide that it is the right time, it might be too late. Seize the day. Never have regrets.

And most importantly, stay close to your friends and family, or they have helped make you the person that you are today. Pass this along to your friends. It could make a difference. The difference between doing all that you can or having regrets which may stay with you forever.

Love Questions (In Happiness and Sadness)

In life, there are always ups and downs. Who can really stand by your side when you needed it most... Think about it...

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was this guy who loved two gals at the same time but he didn't know which one he loved more. Someone taught him.

Ask yourself this question and answer it honestly :

"When you are happy, which gal would you want to share your happiness with?" The one you think of is someone you love.

Ask yourself another question and answer it honestly :

"When you are sad, which gal you want to share your burden with?" The one you think of is also someone you love.

If you think of the same gal when you are happy & sad, that's the most perfect. But if you don't think of the same gal, I would advise you to chose the one you are willing to share your sadness with.

In life, there are more sorrows than happiness. There are too many people that u meet that u can share your happiness with, not necessary your lover.

If you live your life happily, you can also enjoy it alone.

In sadness, however, there are not many people willing to share your burden with you. If you are willing to tell someone your happiness, I am sure that person has got to be someone close & an understanding person to you.

But it shouldn't stop there. If that person only thinks of you when she is happy, but looks for someone else when she is sad, this lover is too unstable, she doesn't treat you as someone she can spend the rest of her life with.

Of course, I will be very happy if I am the first person to share her happiness. But, if she is sad, I will be too willing to stay by her side & ease her pain. Only then, will I believe that I hold a very important position in her heart.

If you are sad, who comes to your mind first?

Backdate for 30th Nov and 1st Dec

Sorry for not updating my blog recently because I was a bit busy which is good. I will just backdate a bit for what I did in the last 2 days.

30th Nov

The morning started slow but I did a lot of things today. At around 3pm, I was requested by my professor to attend a signing ceremory at the School of Biological Science but when I was at the registration counter, they check that they don't have my name inside. They just ask me to go and seat in but I wasn't even intending to attend in the first place. After sitting in for a few minutes, I pretend going to the toilet and give myself the slip.

I was supposed to meet Adrian at Tampines MRT at 6:50pm to meet his hair stylist. Yes, after talking for so long about it, I am finally going to get it done. But since I was still early, I pop by Sitex which is at Expo and walk around. Nothing much to see there and I met Adrian at his recommended hair saloon which is located at the 3rd floor in Century Square. The hair stylist tried to style my hair but there is a limit to what she can do because my hair is still short (but to me, I think it is like really long :P). She trim my hair to give it some shape and there is something which I did that will surprise all of you. I highlighted my hair. Yes, I did. Not really those really colour highlight, just some rather dark colour which you can detect the change of colour in my hair under sunlight.

After that, Adrian and I had our dinner and we went to St. James Powerhouse for a nights out. This is the first time I am going in to St. James ever since it was open like many many months back. I drink a bit and we went off at around 2:30am. I was really tired that I just knock out when I arrived home. I still have to wake up early tomorow as I got Photoshop course at ACe Training which I need to attend.

1st Dec

Got to wake up early today as I got Photoshop CS3 course for photographers at ACE Training which is located at Queen Street. The course is an 8 hours course starting from 9am until 6pm. So I was on course literally for the whole day. The course was quite basic but it is good to enhance my understand for Photoshop and also the effective use of my Wacom Tablet. Hehe...

After that, I went to pick up some DVDs to backup my harddisk and clean up my house before calling it a night.
