helpless, disappointed and angry now. :(
Based on a true story that I heard...
There were 3 persons assigned to teach 30 hours of lab and they were supposed to be paid $40/hr. Unexpectedly, when they submit our claims upon completion of the whole 30 hours session, they were deny off their payment all because they are contract workers and their contract states that "You will be paid from the date of your appointment an all-in salary of $XXX per month. No other allowances will be payable."
Teaching the lab is outside their normal scope of work but the lab were conducted during normal work hours and so that is the argument presented and their claims were rejected. They worked overtime from time to time just to rush for demo and deadline but they were not paid by the hours. This is just damn ridicious. I think that from now on, these people should just complete their 40 working hours per week, not a minute more, not a minute less.
The 3 of them were really disappointed about how the things turn out. Their managers volunteer to fork money out of their own pocket just to compensate them but hey... it is because they "pitied" the workers and felt that they had play them out as they are the one who asked the 3 of them to do the lab supervision without looking out for the restriction and so they wanted to pay them so that the managers feel less guilty over the mistake that they made.
In the midst of the discussion with the managers over their payment, it do seems that they won't be getting back the full amount of $1200 from them. It is all too much already. In the end, the 3 of them decided to forgo the $1200 because they don't really need that money and they won't want to be indebt by their managers. But seriously, to them... their hearts had just dead. Screw that bloody place.
