No End to Technology Chase

With the launch of the Nikon D700 tomorrow, the age of digital camera has reach another level. A Full-Frame camera cater for the entry level professional. For me, I was very much distracted and disturbed by the fact a lot of photographers are selling away their D300 which is 1.5X crop camera. The D300 is still a very good camera if you ask me. From what I see, everyone feels good to get a new Full-Frame body. My question is... do they need it? Or is it a feel good factor? Or is it just technology chase.

It is a common trend in Clubsnap now, very much different from the good old days. People ask what lenses to go with the D700 camera, people selling their gears which are less than one month old, people are just chasing after technology and changing camera like mobile phones. For me, I am still using the good D200 and in fact, I am going back to film.

I think I have gone beyond that stage of technology chase. I want a D300 or even a D700 if I can get it, but I am not going to rush for it. I am going for other things first. Skill, techniques and knowledge for example... I have sign up for the Travel and Creative Photography course and Black and White Printing course at PSS to re-train myself to achieve the next level. I felt that I am now at a plateau stage, I want to obtain the next level for my photography skills. I am even going back to film, hoping to get the feel of shooting film and back in the days without a computer to do the Post-processing, I want to try those days in a darkroom and using chemical to develop my own print and hopefully, I can set up my own darkroom at my home.

Why the sudden change? Not that I no longer feel the passion for photography, it is just that... I tired I guess... I wanted a good break... away from the crowd and hassle and buzz of life. Just me and a camera, walk along the landscape of mountain and river... blue sky and green wood... Just let me away from the technology chase and be one with nature.
